Shires Call for Closure of the Kimberley

KIMBERLEY SHIRES CALL FOR REGION-WIDE TRAVEL BAN

The four Kimberley shires have called for the State Government to enforce a travel ban to the region.

“We are calling on the State Government to enforce a maximum level of travel restrictions across and around the Kimberley region as soon as possible,” Broome Shire president Harold Tracey said.

“The potential consequences of uncontrolled COVID-19 in the Kimberley would be devastating.”

The Kimberley Zone, which is made up of the four local governments Broome, Derby West Kimberley, Halls Creek and Wyndham East Kimberley, came to a consensus decision at a meeting this week.

New border restrictions between NT-WA begin at 1.30pm today, with all arrivals to go into a 14-day isolation.
