On Wednesday 8th March EKCCI hosted a Public Forum in Kununurra for anyone within the East Kimberley Region to attend and have the opportunity to voice their Ideas & Challenges they see for the future of the East Kimberley. 80 people were in attendance.

There were 2 key speakers on the evening, Cr Jane Parker – President Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley & Jeff Gooding – CEO Kimberley Development Commission who spoke about the Northern Development, Kimberley Blueprint, Strategic Plan etc. Jill Williams our Chamber President also spoke on the evening and Michele Pucci – Board Member – Gelganyem Limited chaired the evening. Every person was given the opportunity at their table to answer 2 specific questions on the night and they had 15 minutes on each question, and those questions were

  • What are the ideas for the future?
  • What are the challenges we may come across?

Each person’s individual Ideas & Challenges were written onto large pieces of butchers paper at their table and after 15 minutes on each question they were then asked to work together as a group and come up with a choice of the Top 2 Priority ideas & Top 2 priority Challenges at that table and they were highlighted with bright pink stickers. Each piece of butchers paper from all 11 tables were then displayed at the front of the hall for everyone to see.

So for example from 11 tables, 9 tables suggested “Foreshore Development / Lily Lagoon / Water Park / Board walks” as an idea but only 3 tables chose it as a priority!

Across all 11 tables, some of the ideas did come up regularly and you will find them displayed in the charts. Some of the Ideas have been merged together as they were either worded differently from other tables or fell under the same umbrella if you like. Each number on the chart reflects the amount of table suggestions.

Please find attached a number of charts that show the outcomes from our Public Forum. Click on the orange links!
